Company Profile
Sawyer and Smith Corporation was formed
in 1990 as an Engineering and Equipment Maintenance company. Services provided for
Engineering lead us to develop a staff for equipment manufacture and replacement
parts. Often a troublesome machine would be re-engineered to perform to customer
specifications, but the customer could not find competent assistance to implement the
necessary changes. Our group was expanded to meet this need. Sawyer and Smith
worked on sub-contract basis with vendors and manufacturers of machinery to affect
maintenance, installation and training for their various machines. One such company,
Techno-Matics, inc., obtained the full time support of our President for the operation of
their company.
Techno-Matics, inc. was formerly the Foundry Equipment
Division of I. Schumann & Company, a brass ingot manufacturer. For six years prior to
becoming TMi, at the end of 1994, the division represented equipment for Permanent Mold,
Foundry, Polishing, and Piston Coating.
In 1995, new management expanded the services of the division to include Service, Support
and Installation. The division quickly grew and new markets were identified. To be able to
service these new markets and products, the division was sold and new ownership obtained.
Within six months of the new management, the company moved to its new headquarters in
downtown Cleveland. Expansion into the support of the equipment soon resulted in an
Engineering staff with full design and programming capabilities. New products were
designed and the company expanded into the manufacture of equipment as well as
representation.
Today we offer you the latest in Automation components, programming and process design.
The company is in the process of patenting some of its equipment designs for the
Automobile industry and is proud to be the source of the STN Piston Coating System, which
has nearly doubled the output for one fourth the space of conventional piston coating
applications. The complete system functions with one PLC, one person, one operator
station, and one button on a CRT for operation.
Imported equipment is often upgraded to American Standards or modified to meet the
customers' requirements in our shop. Complete processes for the manufacture of components
is available.
Now, the service, support and representation previously
offered by the former TMi group is available through Sawyer and Smith Corporation.
